Legendary artist and notorious jewel thief Jack Roland Murphy, aka “Murf the Surf”, first acquired fame for masterminding the biggest gem heist in American History. Murf made off with the rare Star of India as well as the Delong ruby, the Eagle diamond, and the Midnight Sapphire in a spectacular 1964 gem heist at New York City’s American Museum of Natural History. Murphy’s exploits were dramatized in the movie, “Murf the Surf” starring Robert Conrad in the title role. Released, reformed and now serving as a prison minister, this flamboyant ex-thief is a talented artist whose works feature water color seascapes and lighthouses.
