Harbor Scene original graphite drawing by Francis Luis Mora, circa 1900s. Coming from a family whose artistic lineage dates back to 18th-century Spain, Francis Luis Mora (1874-1940), Uruguayan-born American Painter, produced masterpieces that often reflected a colorful blend of Spanish and American influences. Mora worked in oil, watercolor, charcoal and pastel, and is best known for figure, portrait, mural and illustrator arts around the turn of the 20th century. His credits include portraits of some of the greatest names of the day, including Andrew Carnegie and President Warren Harding, as well as illustrations to the era’s leading publications. Mora was commissioned to paint the Missouri State Building mural for the famous Louisiana Purchase Exposition in St. Louis in 1904. He loved capturing the flavor of life, and seascapes such as Harbor Scene illustrates the energy of a harbor town.
